This site provides current home economics information of interest to consumers in Canada, and specifically on the Prairies. The site is maintained by the Manitoba Association of Home Economists (MAHE), professional home economists committed to providing relevant, accurate and up-to-date information pertaining to food and nutrition skills, family life, budgeting and resource management.

The site was originally created by the Association of Saskatchewan Home Economists/ASHE.

The creation of this site was made possible by donations to the Emmie Oddie Recognition Fund, Canadian Home Economics Foundation. The Emmie Oddie Recognition Fund was established to acknowledge the contributions of Emmie Oddie who used her home economics background to greatly impact and improve the lives of families living on the Prairies. For almost 50 years, Emmie Oddie answered questions from readers of The Western Producer, an agricultural publication on the Canadian Prairies. Her knowledge and extensive contributions to the community have has a deep impact on the quality of life for many families.

The re-development of the Home & Family website in response to the COVID-19 pandemic was made possible by the governments of Canada and Manitoba through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership program. The COVID-19 pandemic has created significant financial stress and concerns for food security with the economic downturn and disruptions in food systems. This site aims to combine current food safety, nutrition and food preparation information with articles to help build local food systems and stretch budgets further with the management of resources. This site was developed for individuals looking for accurate, practical information, as well as for agencies serving vulnerable families in Manitoba as a tool for improving the quality of life for their clients.
